Passio returns to our repertoire as part of the 750th anniversary of the Diocese of Turku.
The work Passio portrays the Easter passion drama with powerful strokes. After the prologue, the story itself begins at the Last Supper, where Jesus is present as a light. Thereafter, his figure shifts from one dancer to another, and both women and men carry the mantle of Jesus. Passio takes a stand on inclusion and exclusion. The work asks what is eternal, and what sustains us in life.
Passio was originally part of Turku’s European Capital of Culture year in 2011 and was then performed in Turku Cathedral. Choreographer Lindfors received the Church’s Culture Prize for the work the same year. As the cathedral is now closed, the piece will be performed on ERI’s stage. The intimate theatre space brings the story close to the audience, and the lighting strongly emphasizes the drama.
